Equity Banks gives needy KCPE candidates in Laikipia scholarship

Eight bright but needy candidates who sat 2018’s Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) in Laikipia East sub County have befitted with a high school scholarship from the Equity bank wings to fly programme.
The eight, four girls and four boys who scored between 351 marks and 394 will now get a chance to pursue secondary education after being successfully enrolled in the Equity bank sponsored programme that awards them full scholarship for the entire period.
Nanyuki branch Equity bank manager Benson Kinyua speaking Monday said that out of 104 applicants for the scholarship in the area they settled on the eight as they were the most deserving cases.
‘We could not accommodate all the applicants because of limited funding but I urge other well-wishers to chip in and assist the young ones realise their education dreams,” Kinyua said while addressing the beneficiaries and their guardians outside the bank in Nanyuki town.
He added that the bank was willing to share details of the applicants who did not qualify for the wings to fly programme with any well-wisher willing to assist any of the needy students.
Laikipia deputy Governor John Mwaniki while thanking the bank for their charitable deed, called for harmonised efforts in issuance of scholarships so as to reach as many needy cases as possible and avoid duplication.
‘We have so many organisations and agencies offering scholarships and bursaries, I think it would be prudent that they source the applicants from one central database for ease of identification and transparency,” the Deputy Governor said.
He challenged the beneficiaries of the scholarship to work hard and maintain high standards of discipline.
Tweny year old James Olomunyak, one of the beneficiaries said he was elated to pursue secondary education at Baringo high school after having dropped out of primary school several times due to poverty at his home.
