Embu has welcomed investors and business people from Jiangsu Provincial People’s Congress (JPPC) of China as a way of enhancing cooperation between them and the County.
The Speaker of the County Assembly, Joash Thiriku said the devolved unit and JPPC had signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at cementing existing bilateral ties between the two entities.
Thiriku, while welcoming a 12 member delegation led by Wei Guoqiang, Vice Chairman of Jaingsu Standing Committee said the MOU aims at enhancing cooperation through identifying investment and business opportunities and facilitating investors to invest in the County.
“The MOU focuses on promotion of cooperation, strengthening exchange high level visits and establishment of a working mechanism with a goal of promoting investment in the county,” he observed.
The speaker further added that the MOU focuses on investment, tourism and technical cooperation with an emphasis on vocational training for the youth.
“Apart from capacity building in vocational centres the MOU will also focus on agricultural processing of macadamia,
coffee, tea and horticulture,” he added.
On his part, Guoqiang appreciated efforts being done by the county government in promotion of vocational training, adding that this is the way to go for the economy of the county to grow.
“The MOU is the foundation for future development of the county especially in area of vocational training to the youths,” Guoqiang observed.
He revealed that Jiangsu province is the leading region in China in manufacturing and education with over 100 vocational training centres and 143 high level universities.
Guoqiang has promised that Jiangsu province will continue strengthening ties with Embu County especially in the areas targeted by the MOU.
The delegation also paid a courtesy call on the County Governor, Martin Wambora before proceeding for a visit to Siakago vocational and training centre.
