Embu Football clubs conduct clean-up drive

Tens of youths drawn from various football clubs in Embu on Friday embarked on a clean-up exercise of the town as part of giving back to the society.

The spruce-up exercise that involved garbage collection, cutting of overgrown grass and vegetation and unclogging drainages comes days before the town plays host to Madaraka Day Celebrations on 1st June at Embu Stadium.

Led by Football Kenya Federation Embu Branch Chairman Charles Njagi, the youths also used the opportunity to sensitive locals on the importance of waste management.

“Our football teams’ players are also part of the community and we want them to also take part in the management of the environment, ” said Njagi who is also 3KFC chairman.

The team Captain Moses Munene said they will make it a tradition to clean up various towns across the county regularly.

“We intend to hold these clean-up exercises every three months in different parts of the county to keep our environment clean,” said Munene.

They at the same time said the upgrading of Embu Stadium was a big boost to the football fraternity in the county and will go a long way in uplifting soccer standards.
