Embrace dialogue to resolve domestic disputes- families urged

Murang’a South Deputy County Commissioner Gitonga Murungi has implored Kenyans to embrace amicable ways of resolving domestic disputes in families instead of resorting to violence.

Murungi, while addressing the public in Makuyu lamented the numerous incidences of homicides and suicides in Murang’a as a result of domestic violence.

“There are many cases of people killing each other in families and it is often because of very trivial things that could have been resolved amicably,” he noted.

“It is unfortunate and as a society we need to value life as it is precious and nobody deserves to die,” said Murungi, adding that people ought to embrace dialogue for peaceful co-existence.

The deputy county commissioner admitted that there were various challenges in families, but called on people, especially those suffering from marital problems to speak out and seek help to avoid tension and bottled-up emotions that may lead to violence or suicide.

“The number of people committing suicide is alarming, let us go back to our families and strive to identify the root cause of young ones taking their own lives,” he said, while urging parents to talk, advise and listen to their children.

At the same time, the deputy county commissioner sent a strong message of warning to perpetrators of defilement and arbitrators of the same.

“We will not hesitate to enforce the law on anyone found guilty of defilement or anyone arbitrating justice on the same,” he warned.

Murungi observed that all children must be protected and have a right to education and nobody should threaten their wellbeing.
