Residents of Elwak in Mandera county have faulted Kenya power company for rampant electricity outages and rationing in the area.
They said the power outages has adversely affected businesses resulting to poverty among residents.
A local businessman, Edwin Wachira said they were contemplating buying power generators if the problem persists lamenting that the five-hour power rationing daily had dire consequences.
On his part, another trader Adan Ali said a lot of perishable goods were going to waste due to hot weather in the region as they could not refrigerate them due to power blackouts.
Ali said the company was connecting additional households to electricity without increasing the power capacity.
He appealed to the Kenya Power company to procure a high voltage generator to cater for needs of Elwak residents.
Mandera county is not connected to the national grid but generates electricity through diesel.
