The Tana River County Social Development Officer (CSDO), George Galana has said there are total of 6300 elderly persons who are benefiting from the cash transfer program, with 2400 in Garsen, 1600 in Bura and 2300 in Galole Sub Counties.
Galana asked for collaboration from the county government in order to see the upscaling the number of the elderly persons benefiting from the program, adding that , “they ought to work hand in hand with us to make sure each elder under the programme is served,” he said.
Speaking to Kenya News Agency in his office on Monday, the CSDO said his office is experiencing a shortage of staff because they are only four officers serving the entire county.
He also said, apart from assisting the elderly people, the office of social services have the role to play in supporting orphans and people with disability.
“The orphans and vulnerable belongs to the county, and it is our responsibility in conjunction with county government to take care of them,” Galana stated.
