Citizens above 65 years in Meru County have a reason to smile, for receiving free National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) cover that will be catered for by the County Government.
The exercise was launched, yesterday, by the Meru County Governor, Kiraitu Murungi, in Buuri Sub- County, where he said his Administration has already allocated Sh300 million for the program.
Kiraitu noted that the County Government is committed to prioritize health services, as it is one of the ‘Big Four’ Agenda, saying health is a basic requirement and a right for all.
“We have come up with this programme for providing medical covers for the elderly because it is good for their healthcare needs, since they are susceptible to seniority which comes with myriad of health challenges,” Kiraitu said.
Kiraitu maintained that the programme will reduce the heavy burden on families, due to high hospital bills, hence promote well-being for all citizens.
The Governor further said Meru County has received Sh1. 6 billion from the National Government, to improve Meru Level 5 Hospital and a Cancer Centre, which will enhance cancer testing and reduce the waiting period for results.
