Eight schools from Mwala Sub County in Machakos County have qualified for the Eastern Regional music festivals to be held at Kitui Technical Institute Kitui County on September 10-11.
Kabaa High, Masii Girls, Kilembwa Secondary, Ikalaasa Secondary, Muthetheni Girls, Kyethivo Girls, Mwala Secondary and Tumaini International emerged winners in various categories in the just concluded county festivals held at Kwathanze Secondary School.
The theme for this year’s festivals is Kenya my Pride, my Future. Muthetheni Girls staged a thrilling performance with a French choral verse in the class 1318J category while Masii Girls buoyed the guests with a Giriama folklore dance in the 378 category.
Kathiani Girls and Machakos Girls however dominated the festivals and won in ten and seven categories respectively.
Machakos County Director of Education Margaret Mwirigi hailed the resumption of the festivals after a two year hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic.
“It’s exciting to have the festivals back, co-curricular activities are key in learning,” said Mwirigi.
She thanked teachers for preparing the learners to participate in the festivals.
“These activities require time and resources and we are grateful that schools complied to have learners participate,” she added.
