Lower Eastern Regional Commissioner (RC) Evans Achoki has assured Machakos residents of peace during the forthcoming general election slated for August 9.
Achoki who held a meeting with National Government Administration Officers (NGAO) from across Machakos County at Machakos School Tuesday, said the security team is committed to enhancing security before, during and after the elections.
The RC who addressed the Press after holding the security meeting whose aim was to discuss election preparedness urged the NGAO officers to put the needs of the citizens first in all they do.
“We earlier held a meeting with the County intelligence team to look into election preparedness. I had the opportunity to later meet with all chiefs, assistant county commissioners and Deputy County Commissioners from Machakos County and discuss performance improvement as a member of the NGAO fraternity,” said Achoki.
He said that the meeting discussed a variety of strategies which would help the administrators perform better for the benefit of the citizens during the fourth coming elections adding that good service delivery is a right to the citizens.
The administrator cautioned politicians to desist from inciting violence among their supporters where he reiterated that that all political campaigns and meetings should end at 6pm.
“We will firmly deal with any incitements from politicians. Politicians shouldn’t incite their supporters. They should instead conduct their campaigns peacefully and follow schedules of their meetings and venues as they submitted to the IEBC,” said Achoki.
“All political campaigns or political meetings should end at 6.00 pm. Don’t conduct campaigns or political meetings at night,” he said, and warned chiefs and other government officers from been involved in politics adding that such actions would attract tough penalties.
“We do not allow NGAO Officials to engage in any political activities. Those found engaging in such activities will face disciplinary action alongside legal sanctions,” Achoki said.
The RC who witnessed the promotion of one of the Chief from Senior to Principal Chief called on government officials to work hard so that they could earn promotions.
He added that the security team would fight against illegal brew, second-generation alcoholic beverages, and gaming machines that undermine young people’s values.
“We are going to step up war on illicit brew, second-generation liquor and slot gambling machines,” added Achoki.
The meeting which was attended by both regional and Machakos county security committee team led by Machakos County Commissioner Rhoda Onyancha later toured the Machakos Technical Training Institute in Kalama sub-county and Konza Techno city.
