The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission is set to conduct corruption risk assessment of the county government of Siaya.
Speaking during the launch of the exercise, EACC commissioner, Dr. Cecilia Mutuku said the risk assessment will not water down the ongoing investigations into financial impropriety among the members of the executive.
She said that the exercise is aimed at ensuring that proper mechanisms of enhancing good governance and accountability were put in place to enable Siaya residents get the best from the devolved government.
Dr. Mutuku said public and state officers were expected to uphold national values and principles of governance as envisioned in the constitution.
She said that the decision by the Siaya county government to welcome EACC to conduct the corruption risk assessment was an indication that the leadership was committed to putting in place a mechanism of enhancing good governance and accountability.
Speaking during the occasion, Siaya governor, James Orengo assured the anti-graft officials that they will get maximum support from his team.
“I guarantee you that you will get any information or document that you require for this activity” said Orengo.
The governor, who was flanked by among others, deputy governor, William Oduol and county assembly speaker, George Okode expressed hope that the commission will identify loopholes and opportunistic practices that make it possible for corruption to thrive.
He urged the anti-graft body to also take a look at the recently released special audit report by a team led by former Auditor General, Edward Ouko that pointed out loopholes that have seen the county lose billions.The Corruption risk assessment will take two weeks.
