The Ethics and Anti- Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives on Tuesday arrested a Bondo court clerk who had solicited a Sh. 9,000 bribe from a defendant in order to throw away an undisclosed case.
Confirming the incident, the EACC Western Kenya Regional Manager, Ignatius Wekesa said the clerk was arrested inside the office of a certain Magistrate in Bondo Courts after receiving Sh.9, 000 bribe from the defendant instead of the agreed Sh.10, 000.
Wekesa said they had been monitoring the clerk after they received a complaint from the defendant a Mr. John Misula five days ago.
“We received a complaint from one John Misula, who reported that the clerk had requested for a financial advantage of Sh.10, 000 in order to drop a case that was before the court,” said Wekesa.
Wekesa said after the report was made by the defendant, his officers set a trap and arrested the clerk using treated money worth Sh.9, 000.
He said the clerk is likely to be charged with soliciting a bribe contrary to the Bribery Act.
The EACC boss said they were still investigating if the clerk was acting on behalf of his bosses or on his own.
He urged all public officers to uphold integrity and warned all those who would be involved in corrupt dealing that they would not be spared.
