Undercover detectives from the Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission (EACC) staged a sting operation on Thursday at Kitui County Government offices arresting three senior staff.
The sleuths, who arrived in unmarked cars, informed the County Secretary Dr Joshua Chepchieng of their intentions before arresting the trio over corruption allegations.
The arrested officers include Jeremiah Kisilu, Ag Chief Officer Land, Infrastructure and Urban Development; June Munyao, Chief Finance Officer and Makau Sande, a Senior Procurement Officer.
They were immediately whisked away from the glare of cameras as the cars sped off from the County Headquarters.
When reached for comment, Dr Chepchieng confirmed the arrests but refused to divulge further details.
According to insider sources, the trio will be charged for the irregular procurement amounting to millions of shillings.
In December 2019, Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Emily Kamau wrote to the EACC to prepare the arrest of two Kitui County officials for procurement irregularities.
The duo, Francis Kyalo Kea and Joshua Kalola Munyaka, are accused of irregular supply and delivery of five trucks for livestock transportation.
