The Kwale Governor, Salim Mvurya has said his government would continue with talent identification and promotion through the allocation of budget funds each financial year.
Kwale County, he said, is home to abundant talents in various sporting fields which needed to be natured for posterity.
Mvurya said he would continue to support sporting activities for the youths so as to discourage them from engaging in violent extremism, criminal gangs, and drug and substance abuse among other social vices.
He made the remarks after gracing a fiercely contested Jimmy and Kinana Cup soccer finals in memory of two brothers Jimmy and Kinana who were former Harambee Stars top scorers, between Dumna FC and Kisite Sumba FC at Chibubu grounds in Msambweni sub-county on Sunday.
Governor Mvurya’s efforts received lots of praise from Gor Mahia FC CEO, Lordvick Aduda and Kenya Coaches Association Secretary Bob Oyugi who said Kwale County is the best in promoting grassroots talent promotion.
“We loud these programs and efforts by Mvurya, actually this is what Kenya needs and we shall adopt this system,” he said and pledged that Gor Mahia FC would work more closely with the county to promote talents. “Kwale welcomes you and all good partners to help our youth,” said Mvurya.
Dumna FC beat Kisite 1-0 to carry home medals, a trophy, four footballs, a jersey and cash prize of more than Sh.70, 000.
The Governor was accompanied by CEC for Finance, Bakari Hassan Sebe who initiated the tournament.
