A driver of a truck died on the spot and two other drivers were injured in a multiple accident at Masantare junction in Ololulung`a area along the Narok – Bomet road in Narok South last night.
Confirming the accident, Narok South and West Sub- County Police Commander Magdalene Chebet said the driver who died was following two tippers which were ahead of him when one of tippers stopped suddenly after hitting a cow that was crossing the road.
She said it’s at this point that the driver stopped and came out to find out what was happening and was crushed by an oncoming Isuzu lorry that was avoiding to hit an oncoming station wagon car. The two tippers were coming from Bomet side when the accident occurred at around 9:15pm.
Chebet said the driver of the station wagon vehicle which was also coming from Bomet side was trying to overtake the two tippers that had stalled when he collided with the oncoming Isuzu lorry.
The driver of the station wagon was seriously injured and is fighting for his life at Narok Referral Hospital while the driver of the Isuzu lorry was treated for minor injuries at Longisa Hospital in Bomet and discharged. The body of the deceased is also lying at Longisa Hospital Mortuary in Bomet pending postmortem and further investigations into the accident.
The surge in accidents on the Maai-mahiu-Narok-Bomet highway has caused concern among leaders in the county with Governor Samuel Tunai calling on the County security team to intensify traffic patrols on the highway and erect more speed bumps on it.
