Drama in Garrissa Court Over Poisoning of Labourer

There was drama today at the Garissa law courts when two suspects verbally accused each of poisoning a casual labourer at a local farm in Garissa Township constituency.

According to the prosecutor, Allan Magero, the suspects Ronald Musyoka and Daniel Wanjala are said to have prepared and poisoned the food eaten by Peter Wafula on March 15, 2021 who then complained of stomach pains.

Wafula died later the same day.

Appearing before Cosmas Maundu, the suspects denied the charges and went ahead to point an accusing finger at each other for causing the death of Wafula.

In his defence, Musyoka told the court that his co-accused gave him two plates of food and asked him to give a specific one to the victim.

“Your honour, Daniel Wanjala gave me the plate of food and told me to give a specific plate to Wafula. He should stop wasting the time of this court and instead admit to what he did,” Musyoka said.

On his part, Wanjala defended himself saying he never went to the farm on the material day nor knew the victim.

Magero asked the court to allow the police to detain the suspects for fourteen days to enable them complete their investigations.

“Your honor, initial investigations show that there was foam on the mouth of the deceased and the postmortem has not yet been done. Further the police have not taken the statements of all the witnesses regarding this case,” Mongera said.

Maundu heeded to the prosecution request and granted the police fourteen day to detain the suspects at Garissa Police station pending completion of the investigation.

The case will be mentioned on March 31, 2021.
