Drama at mortuary as two parties claim a body

Drama ensued yesterday at Embu Level five hospital mortuary as a family was removing a body for burial after a woman arrived claiming to be the deceased’s wife.
The scuffle delayed the release of Joe Kyalo’s body for two hours with the woman only identified as Mbithe maintained she was his wife.
Mbithe who claimed she had a son with the deceased produced his identification card and NHIF card Embu Level five hospital mortuary among other documents as proof to her claim.
Mercy Kyalo, the recognized wife to the deceased and other family members were unable to have the body released by hospital authorities without the documents that Mbithe held.
Daisy Karimi, an eye witness and a friend to the wife of the deceased, told the press she was shocked by Mbithe’s claim saying she has lived with Mrs. Kyalo for over 10 years in the same plot without any clue of a co wife.
Karimi said Mbithe also possessed documents and keys to a club belonging to the deceased which was unknown to mercy.
The two parties later agreed to proceed with the burial and sort out the matter afterwards. It was then that mourners proceeded to Kyuso in Mwingi, Machakos County where the body of Kyalo who operated a butchery in Embu town was to be laid to rest.
