Divisive Politics Derail Development in South Mugirango

Residents of South Mugirango constituency in Kisii County have faulted a section of local leaders for perpetuating divisive politics at the expense of development in the region.

The resident led by Okemwa Kenyanya decried that some leaders were hell bent on fueling propaganda and character assassination against senior personalities at a time when the community required unity of purpose to spin the wheel of development to greater heights.

He appealed to Interior Cabinet secretary Dr. Fred Matia ng’s during a press conference at Nyamondo village to take the leading role in bringing leaders from opposing faction to a common ground.

Kenyanya expressed fears that persistent wrangles among the leaders were counterproductive to the socioeconomic prosperity of the Gusii community and urged local politicians to ease their hardline stance for the common good of the area.

He however warned leaders who might be reluctant to embrace the proposed truce that they risked being isolated politically

Victor Omwoyo at the same time urged the leaders to exercise restraint and leave out career civil servants from their political wars citing cases where the name of CS Matiangi was dragged into their affairs.

“We must respect the CS considering his position as a civil servant and stop dragging his name into local politics” he said.

Okerosi Motende attributed the poor state of the roads and sanitation to the toxic political environment in the region arguing that if leaders were united, solutions to such problems could be found.

Shem Maikara urged area Member of Parliament Slyvanus Osoro to liaise with the Interior CS on how proper development can be recognized in the constituency.
