The government through the Ministry of Health has started mass distribution of Long-Lasting Insecticide Treated Nets (LLIN) in Gucha Sub County.
Gucha received 75, 000 Long lasting insecticidal nets to be distributed to 140,000 people.
Speaking to the residents in Gucha, the area Assistant County Commissioners Linet Laboso asked the residents to use the nets to protect themselves against spread of malaria.
‘Mosquito nets act as a physical barrier, preventing bites by vector mosquitoes and thus providing personal protection against malaria to the individual(s) using the nets. Do not use the nets for chicken rearing or using them as fencing nets,’ said Laboso.
The Sub County Public Health Officer Michael Oyunge noted the rising case of malaria in the region and asked the locals to use the nets effectively to help in curbing the spread of malaria
He reminded the beneficiaries on the need for good disposal practices of old nets instead of using them to fence vegetable saying that they should burn old nets at a designated place.
