Distribution of relief food kicks-off in Kieni

The National Government, in collaboration with the Nyeri County Government will on Saturday distribute relief food to affected residents in Kieni East and West sub-counties in a bid to mitigate the ravaging drought across the Country.

During a meeting of the Nyeri County Famine Relief Coordination Committee co-chaired by Deputy Governor (DG) David Kinaniri and Nyeri Deputy County Commissioner Joseph Mwangi, it was disclosed that the food consignment consists of 400, 50kg bags of rice and 160, 50kg bags of beans.

According to Kinariri, this is in addition to an earlier consignment of 520 bags of rice and 720 bags of beans from the national government which has already been distributed to residents of Kieni constituency.

In addition, the Deputy Governor disclosed that the County Government has set aside Sh11 million for the purchase of food for the vulnerable.

“The county government has also distributed 400 bags of potato seeds and 9,000 kilograms of bean seed as part of our medium-term measures for planting during the short-term rains,” said Kinaniri.

The Deputy governor asked friends and people of goodwill, who wish to join the County Government in supporting needy brothers and sisters in the County to do so either in cash or donations through the Nyeri county famine relief Fund.
