All public day-secondary schools in Kiharu Constituency are set to benefit with equipment of laboratories, libraries, and computer labs under a programme sponsored by the local NG-CDF.
Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro said in the education programme dubbed Masomo Bora 2025, they will focus on the construction of laboratories and libraries to deepen knowledge among the day scholars.
He noted that Sh100 million, which will be disbursed within a period of two years, will facilitate construction of the infrastructure that are key in the studies of secondary school learners.
The Masomo Bora programme was initiated last year by the legislator to boost education standards in day secondary schools within the Constituency.
“At the initial stages of the programme, we focused on reducing school fees for day scholars and providing food for learners in the schools.
Now we are aiming to deepen access to knowledge in the schools, and that’s why our target is to construct laboratories, computer labs, and libraries in the schools,” said the MP during the launching of the Masomo Bora 2025 programme at Mugoiri Mixed Secondary Day School on Friday.
Ndindi further assured parents that they will continue paying school fees amounting to Sh1,000 per term despite the reduced population occasioned by lack of form-one intake this year.
He noted the local NG-CDF will factor in to increase funding to the schools to cater for the financial deficit occasioned by the low student population.
“We have agreed with the school head teachers that parents continue paying the school fees of Sh1,000 per term. The deficit caused will be catered to by the NGCDF. Learners will continue getting meals at school for six days as provided in the Masomo Bora programme,” he remarked.
The programme, he further noted, will factor in buying revision books for the students and asked parents not to fail paying the required Sh1,000 fees since it plays a key role in settling crucial school expenses like paying cooks, among others.
“Some schools have remedial and tutorial programmes for the learners, and the costs for this we agreed should also be capped at Sh1,000 per child,” he added.
This academic year, Ndindi noted, the NG-CDF will factor Sh50,000 for each day secondary school in the constituency to cater to extracurricular activities.
He said the money will be an additional allocation for the extracurricular activity budget to boost what is disbursed to the schools through capitation.
The MP, who is also chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee for Budget, underscored the Masomo Bora programme saying it currently benefits over 10,000 learners in day secondary schools in Kiharu.
“The programme has seen an influx of students in day secondary schools in Kiharu. Since the programme commenced in early last year, more than 1,000 learners have joined various day schools within the constituency,” he stated.
Ndindi added that the programme also factors in the facilitation of motivation, including a trip to Dubai for 12 principals, two from each of six wards among the best and most improved day secondary schools, and a trip to Mombasa for teachers of the best improved subjects.
On upcoming 2025 prize-giving ceremonies for Murang’a East and Kahuro Sub Counties within the Constituency, Ndindi assured parents that they will not be asked to contribute monies for the occasions.
“We will allocate Sh450,000 each for Kahuro and Murang’a East Sub Counties to relieve parents from being tasked to cater for prize-giving events this year,” he added.
