CS Owalo reaffirms govt’s commitment to regional development

Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy, Cabinet Secretary (CS) Eliud Owalo, has reiterated the government’s commitment to foster regional development for the benefit of all Kenyans.

Owalo appealed to Kisumu residents and leaders to slow down on politics and criticism and instead fully support the government’s development initiatives for the region.

He made the remarks in Nyakach Sub-County, Kisumu County, on Sunday when he presided over a fund drive for the construction of a prayer house at St. Christina Kogola Catholic Parish.

Owalo noted that the government has so far unveiled a number of projects and added that many others are lined up for launch to boost the economy of the Nyanza region.

He reiterated that the Kenya Kwanza administration has made tremendous progress in implementing tangible development projects in western Kenya while striving for balanced national development.

One key project is the Sh3 billion Kabonyo Kanyagwal Fisheries Aquaculture and Training Centre of Excellence, approved by President William Ruto, which aims to revolutionise the fishing community.

In addition, fish landing sites equipped with cold storage and processing facilities have been established along the shores of Lake Victoria to benefit fishermen in Migori, Homabay, Kisumu, and Siaya Counties.

Owalo also announced plans to expand Kisumu International Airport and Kabunde Airstrip in Homabay to include cargo handling, facilitating the direct export of fish from the source.

Jack Ranguma, Chairperson of the Sacco Societies Regulatory Authority (SASRA), called on Kenyans to support the Finance Bill 2024, which aims to enhance financial inclusion through programmes that align with the main economic activities of the people.

“The Finance Bill includes significant provisions for financial inclusion, offering support to farmers engaged in aquaculture or rice farming through farm inputs.

This support enables farmers to focus on production, sell their produce to cooperatives, and earn additional income from profits,” said Ranguma, the former Kisumu Governor.
