Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Margaret Ndung’u, has urged the technical staff in the Ministry to leverage the strong foundation of investments made in ICT over the past decade to escalate inclusive, open, and secure digital access in the country.
Speaking during the closing ceremony for the induction of ICT secretaries and directors at the Kenya School of Government (KSG), Lower Kabete, today Friday, Dr. Ndung’u reiterated that digital access has to be inclusive by factoring in the needs of all citizens.
“As a public servant in the 21st century, you stand at the forefront of a remarkable opportunity to shape the future, leave a lasting legacy, and contribute to a transformative era in ICT.
I want to underscore your role in implementing the Digital Superhighway as envisioned in the Digital Masterplan, aligned with government priorities and Kenya Vision 2030,” Dr. Ndung’u said.
She further stressed the need to leverage emerging technologies, foster tech-enabled innovations, and expand new segments like software engineering, e-commerce, and manufacturing to expand the digital economy.
The CS pointed out the need to proactively mitigate risks by strengthening the country’s cybersecurity and data management practices in line with global norms.
KSG Director General Prof. Nura Mohamed hailed the knowledge acquired by the ICT Secretaries and Directors during the induction programme and urged them to make a positive impact in the nation.
He highlighted that KSG has established the Centre of Excellence and E-learning and Development Institute for boosting development in the digital space.
Other officials who were present at the event included the Secretary of E-Government and Digital Economy, Ms. Mary Kerema; Secretary of ICT, Security, and Audit Control, Mr. Emmanuel Kimeu; Secretary for ICT Infrastructure, Mr. Washington Okoth; Secretary of Administration, Ms. Esther Maina; and other leaders.
