Cabinet Secretary for Transport and Infrastructure James Macharia has launched the construction of the 56KM Bamba-Ganze-Kilifi road at a cost of Sh2.1- billion to boost economic developments in the region.

Accompanied by Kilifi Governor, Amason Kingi, the CS told a media briefing that the government project was in line with the 2017 pledge by President Uhuru Kenyatta to open up the region for business construction adding that the exercise will be completed in two years.

He added that the modern road of bitumen standard will be key to driving the economic development of the county country at large. “This project will boost the economy of this area and will provide many benefits to the tourism, agriculture, education, and even health sectors”, he said.

On his part, Governor Kingi thanked the National Government for its commitment saying that the road will boost local economies in Bamba, Ganze, and the small towns along the stretch by improving accessibility to social amenities and connecting the once rural areas to major towns.

In an interview with the media after the launch, the county boss explained that Ganze residents are facing a lot of hardships when transporting goods in and out of the area making it difficult to do business in the region.

“Our people have undergone a lot of transport challenges before but the completion of this Bamba-Ganze-Kilifi road will open up, to great extent, the business in this area because transport is very important in the growth of the economy in every place,” he said.

Other leaders who graced the event were Principal Secretary for Transport and Infrastructure Mwangi Maringa, Ganze MP, Mr Teddy Mwambire, Kilifi North MP, Mr Owen Baya, and Kilifi Women Rep, Gertrude Mbeyu Mwanyanje.
