Court directs release of insane suspect to family after evaluation

A  Lamu Court  on Thursday  issued a release order for a middle aged man, Jackson  Makiso, after  it  was determined that he is not fit to stand trial.

Jackson  Makiso had  been detained by police in connection to suspicion that he could be an Al  Shabaab operative.

However, the Prinipal Magistrate (PM), Sitati  Themba  determined that Makiso may not be of sound mind and instructed the Directorate of  Criminal Investigations to release him with the caveat that he be returned to his family.

However, Makiso’s family  whereabouts are unknown and members of the public have been urged to provide information that would lead to Makiso being returned to the safe custody of his family.

According to the County Criminal Investigation Officer, Paul  Leting, following thorough investigations and evaluation of  Makiso, they also found that he was non responsive to questions and sometimes incoherent in his train of thought and manner of speech.

“We  are urging members of the public to come forward to help determine where Makiso is from, and if there are family members out there  we urge them to come forward,” Leting stated.
