County to recruit youths to conserve environment

The Makueni County government will employ youths in the next financial year to help in conserving the environment around communities and urban centres.

The county Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili has said the youths will be cleaning, removing plastic waste and clearing drainage systems, while ensuring there is clean health and sustainable environment.

“We will have a community driven development initiative where youths will be employed to remove rubbish in our drainages and keep the environment clean,” said the deputy governor, while speaking during World Environment Day at Lukenya University college, in Emali town.

She said the county administration is committed to keeping a conducive environment for its residents and investors.’“We are ready to partner with all stakeholders that are environmentally conscious and also ready to implement the World Environment agenda in the county where we will live in a pollution free environment,” added Mulili.

“We should embrace waste recycling for a clean environment and improve the alternative sources of livelihoods,” she said.

On his part, Makueni County Commissioner William Kaimba reiterated the government’s commitment of planting 15 billion trees by 2032, adding that growing trees helps in conserving the environment.

Kaimba urged the residents to ensure that they grow trees every rainy season to combat climate change.
