Laikipia County will receive Shs96 million from the national government Equalization Fund.
Senator John Kinyua said eighteen sub locations in the county will benefit from the Fund to help in developing and financing various projects in the identified areas.
“Previously it was only Marsabit, Samburu, Turkana and Isiolo counties which were getting the Equalization Fund kitty. Our county has also been identified as one of the marginalized counties and we will begin to receive the funds,” said the senator when he attended a prayer meeting at Ng’arua bus stop in Nyahururu town on New Year day.
The senator decried the harsh weather conditions, human-wildlife conflict, banditry, cattle rustling and farm invasions in the county.
“Laikipia is one of the counties in the country that has most problems; when we do farming, our crops are destroyed by marauding elephants; when we rear livestock they are stolen by cattle rustlers,” lamented Kinyua.
Kinyua added that the county has also received an increase in allocation from the previous Sh 3.2 billion to 4.2 billion from the Commission for Revenue Allocation.
“I shall do a follow up to make sure that the allocation is properly used for the benefit of area residents,” added the senator.
