County targets to cultivate 300 acres with pyrethrum

The County Government of Uasin Gishu is making notable strides in enhancing agricultural diversification and empowering its farmers in an ongoing distribution of pyrethrum seedlings.

While representing governor Janathan Bii Chelilim, during the distribution of pyrethrum seedlings to residents of Lainguse in Tarakwa Ward, Kesses Sub-County, Agriculture County Executive Edward Sawe noted that a total of 400 sachets were distributed and its projection will facilitate the planting of 100 acres after propagation.

He announced that an additional 800 sachets are set to be distributed in November, bringing the county’s target to over 300 acres of land cultivated with pyrethrum.

The CECM assured farmers that through the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with KENTEGRA Biotechnology Holdings LLC, they will receive the support of an agronomist from KENTEGRA, who will assist them throughout their farming journey.

On his part, Tarakwa Ward Member of County Assembly Thomas Yego encouraged farmers to seize the opportunity to enhance their livelihoods.

Agriculture Chief Officer Mr. Elphas Kesio said that they are committed to supporting the reintroduction of pyrethrum farming to ensure that the residents can cultivate crops that yield higher returns, thus lifting their standards of living.
