The Kakamega County government has set aside 24 isolation centres to tackle Covid-19 epidemic.
Governor Wycliffe Oparanya said they have identified two schools in each of the 12 sub counties as the isolation centres.
Speaking during the weekly press briefing at the county headquarters on Thursday, Oparanya added that two wards have been established at the County Referral Hospital with bed capacities of five and 20 respectively.
The governor said that plans to fumigate major towns and markets in the county are in place with parts of Kakamega town having been covered on Wednesday.
The county boss urged the bodaboda operators to ensure they spray their motorbikes with disinfectants several times every day to guard against the disease.
“We are sensitising the bodaboda operators and open air traders regarding social distancing and other critical measures since they are posing a challenge to the county’s efforts to keep the virus at bay,” he observed.
The Council of Governors (COG) chairman said that he has requested for additional health equipment and relief food from the national government in case the country is forced to go on lockdown.
He said the county does not have the capacity at the moment to handle the situation in case of a lockdown.
