The County Government of Uasin Gishu, through the Directorate of Alcoholic Drinks Control Board (ADCB), has begun screening and assessing individuals set to join the County’s Rehabilitation and Treatment Centre in Moiben.
The exercise, held on Monday, brought together prospective clients from the six sub-counties of Uasin Gishu ahead of their admission to the facility next Monday.
Those admitted will undergo a comprehensive 90-day rehabilitation and treatment programme designed to support their recovery and reintegration into society.
ADCB County Director Koiya Arap Maiyo said the screening exercise is critical in determining the readiness and willingness of prospective clients to undergo rehabilitation.
“The exercise enables us to establish whether an individual has voluntarily chosen to undergo rehabilitation or has been coerced into the programme. This is important because successful rehabilitation requires the client’s willingness and commitment to the recovery process,” Maiyo said.
He added that the assessment also establishes clients’ eligibility and identifies underlying issues, including mental health concerns that may require specialized attention during rehabilitation.
“The comprehensive assessment will enable the rehabilitation team to understand the individual needs of each client and develop appropriate interventions throughout the 90-day programme,” Maiyo noted.
The screening was led by Mrs. Beatrice Tanui, Programme Officer in charge of Rehabilitation Services, together with other officers from the Directorate.
The County Rehabilitation and Treatment Centre offers free rehabilitation services to individuals seeking to overcome alcohol and substance-use challenges.
Additionally, the programme incorporates medical, psychological, social and other support interventions.
