Kakamega County revenue collectors based in Likuyani Sub-county have been told to stop harassing business owners over delayed renewal of licenses.
Kongoni Ward Representative who is also the Kakamega County Assembly Trade, Industrialization and Tourism Committee Chairperson, Robert Makhanu, said it is outdated to confiscate traders’ goods or weighing scales, because they are delaying to renew their licenses.
“I have spoken to the County revenue collectors. I don’t want to hear that any businessman’s shop items have been taken away,” he said.
“The current state of our economy is a challenge to everybody. Let them sit down with the affected businessmen and discuss how they are going to pay for their licenses.
“If you confiscate that person’s weighing scale or seize their sugar or soda stock, where do you expect them to get money to pay for the license? To worsen the seized items always disappear at the revenue offices,” he noted.
He urged the traders to always seek audience with the revenue officers and discuss how they will pay for their licenses rather than playing a hide and seek game that leads to confiscation of their goods.
“Kindly if you have any issue with the revenue officers, consult the market Chair and find an amicable solution,” He advised.
Makhanu who was speaking at Nangili Market, told Kongoni Ward residents to be ready to embrace the Matunda Municipality, whose creation plans are in top gear.
He said that once created the catchment area is set to experience development besides uplifting the livelihoods of the communities within.
“The Municipality is set to cover Mlimani area, Kona Mbaya, Soysambu and extend to Nangili Market. Through it we shall witness numerous development projects courtesy of the World Bank.
“We shall have new tarmac roads, piped water and proper sewerage systems in our markets,” he stated, adding that the Municipality will also create more job opportunities for the residents.
