Kirinyaga County Government has today received a donation 550 bales of maize flour worth Sh 750,000 that is to be distributed to the vulnerable residents of Kirinyaga County from Capwell Industries Ltd.
Obadiah Gitiye, the company’s head of corporate affairs said they are targeting at least 10 counties in the country whereby the food will benefit the vulnerable in these hard times brought about by COVID-19 pandemic.
He said so far they have already successively distributed to four counties, Kirinyaga being among them and they are happy with how organized the county is in the issuing of food.
“We are beneficiaries of raw materials from Kirinyaga County, thus we decided to come and give back to the society by giving flour,” he said.
Gitiye said the company donated Sh 20 million to the National Covid response team and were now giving additional 550 bales of maize flour to each of the ten counties to benefit.
County Executive member for Agriculture Jackline Njogu while receiving the flour on behalf of the Governor lauded the company kind gesture adding that the donation will go a long way to cautioning the vulnerable people in the County.
“Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, even families who were able to provide for themselves before have now turned vulnerable due to loss of jobs and closure of small business,” Njogu said.
Njogu further said the flour is a big boost to what the County has been doing by distributing food across all the sub-counties.
She said they were yet to get to the wards and with the food they would continue with the programme and ensure that all those affected would benefit.
“We have a list of the needy people in our wards and we thank the company for considering us and we want to assure them that the food will go to those on our list who have not yet received food from the county government” ”She said
