The County government of Vihiga intends to partner with the National Youth Service (NYS) which will see establishment of Vihiga County Youth Service.
Speaking at the County Headquarters after lengthy talks with a delegation from the National Youth Service on Wednesday led by Chairman of National Youth Service Council Lt. Gen. Njuki Mwaniki, Vihiga Governor Dr. Wilber Ottichilo said that the agreement will see Vihiga follow the footsteps of counties like Kakamega which have already established County Youth Service Wings.
Meanwhile, Ottichilo who stressed the commitment of his government to partner with the national government on matters development revealed that part of the agreement will see youth from Vihiga undertake training on technical skills and learn values from the national body.
“The deal, to be struck later this month, will be a monumental step towards ensuring that values and national ethos are imparted to the trainees,” he said, adding that the trainings will be undertaken from the county youth polytechnics.
Meanwhile, Governor Ottichilo revealed that manpower from the National Youth Service will soon be used in uplifting and development of infrastructure in the County at a cheaper cost.
“Our infrastructure will soon receive a boost after we are done with the deal. Manpower from the national body will help us achieve this at an affordable cost, whereby, 30 per cent of the payments we will make for the services will be returned to the County,” he said.
County Commissioner Ochillo Oyugi, said the move is constitutional and that it is meant to create employment and empower the locals besides taking services closer to the people.
