Vihiga County has launched a free and reliable internet connectivity service to allow many area residents to enjoy the benefits of ICT.
The free internet has been installed within Vihiga County Government offices and has been received with joy and excitement by the residents, especially the local youth.
Apart from transforming the county as one of the regions with fair and equitable internet coverage, the initiative has been received as a boon for the youthful population.
The service that has previously been perceived as a preserve for the affluent families has transformed the lives of many youths from humble backgrounds with regard to online opportunities.
The free Wi-Fi has equally positively impacted service delivery in important sectors such as medical care, education, business, and access to information and entertainment.
Every evening, the youth gather around the premises of the Vihiga County Government to enjoy free Wi-Fi.
A spot check by KNA revealed the joy of the youthful population.
Creflo Adiye, a medical student at the Vihiga Kenya Medical Training College, is one of the beneficiaries of the free internet.
He says the internet has helped him to access a broad range of educational materials, which have enhanced his studies as well as boosted access to academic resources and knowledge.
At the same time, Creflo revealed that he has managed to secure an online job.
On his part, James Mmbai asserts that free Wi-Fi has reduced the financial burden of internet subscriptions.
James notes that he has also been able to access a wide range of Government services online.
Vincent Onzere confesses that free Wi-Fi has helped him to research and make a choice on the career courses as he awaits to join college.
