Vihiga County Government has launched an eye health strategic plan aimed at providing affordable, quality and sustainable services to the residents.
Governor Dr Wilber Ottichilo, who spoke during the event at the County Referral Hospital, said they have partnered with Christian Blind Mission (CBM), the Kenya society for the blind, the German corporation GIZ and the Visual Impact Society, Kenya (VIP-K) to bring this objective to fruition.
Dr Ottichilo pointed out that the County Referral Hospital in Mbale town has an operational eye clinic, in addition to the Sabatia eye hospital, making the county stand out in its efforts to offer eyesight care services to the people.
He highlighted that the VIP-K has so far undertaken sensitization and awareness creation, capacity building for the health staff and the equipping of health facilities since the year 2022.
The Governor outlined the salient proposals in the plan as including human resource development, eye health infrastructure, health products and technologies, health information management systems and research.
