County Govt to resolve Coast Guard land problem

The  Interior and Coordination of National Government Cabinet Secretary (CS), Dr. Fred Matiang’i has called on Homa Bay County Government to fast track process to acquire land to put up a coast guard base.

Dr. Matiang’i said the coast guard service will help patrol Lake Victoria to offer security to fishermen so that they are able to do their work without any fear of harassment

“His excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta wants coast guards to have a base in Homa Bay,” Matiang’i  said during the commissioning of Othoro police post build with the support of Kabondo Kasipul National government constituency development fund (NG-CDF) on Sunday.

The  CS said they have been looking for land to build the coast guard base but when they come to the ground the members of the county assembly engage them on non-issues

“We  want development “the CS said and wondered whether there are county and national government citizens.

“We want coast guards here in Homa Bay to patrol the waters of Lake Victoria, to have security, we do our work whether it’s fishing without fear of harassment by anybody,” he said

The  CS  asked the deputy governor and the member of Homa Bay county assembly present when they meet to give direction so that in two weeks’ time the project could start.

Matiang’i urged the people to seize what he termed as a historical moment to unite in working together and move forward

“We  are government officials, politicians have been elected by the people. We need to work together for the benefit of the public,” he said.

The CS who was accompanied by various government officials and politicians appreciated the role played by women in leadership.

The  CS  lauded Kabondo Kasipul MP, Eve Obara for her effort that saw Othoro police post built through NG-CDF

“We  will continue to work together. I thank you. This is exemplary leadership,” the CS said and promised to work with MP to look for more funding to put up more modern structures.

The CS  was accompanied by Homa Bay Deputy Governor, Hamilton Orata, Women Representative, Gladys Wanga, Kisii County Senator, Prof. Sam Ongeri, Nyamira County Senator, Okong’o Omogeni, Alego Usonga MP Samwel Atandi,Jimmy Nuru Angwenyi and many others .
