County Government to construct indoor arena

Plans are nearly complete to build an Indoor Arena in Wote town, according to Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr.

Mutula disclosed that the arena is currently at design stage while adding that the government intends to improve on the talents and skills of the youth in the county.

He noted that the county government also intends to produce athletes who will compete in the global space with a view of earning an income to uplift their lives especially the unemployed youth.

“Our county government has initiated the construction of an Indoor Arena in Wote town. This will give the youths opportunity to realize their talents and skills to enable them compete in the global arena,” said Mutula Jr in his Wote office while addressing the media.

During the media briefing, he also revealed that the Makueni Premier Sports Competition, MKJ Supa Cup kicked off this weekend.

Furthermore, he said that men and women from the six sub counties will battle out in six games namely football, volleyball, basketball, beach volleyball, handball and 3×3 basketball.

Kibwezi East and Kibwezi West Subcounties will conduct their finals from which they will identify all Star team to fly the flag of each Subcounty.

The Supa Cup, is an annual tournament which culmination of the county’s Ligi Mashinani Sports where teams from 30 wards compete for a spot at the Supa Cup that usually begins at the Subcounty level.

Mutula said the tournament provides a structured pathway for young athletes aged 18-23 years to develop their skills, gain exposure and transition into national and international sports careers.
