County Government sets aside Sh 311 million to repair roads damaged by heavy rains

Makueni County Government has set aside Sh 311 million for the rehabilitation of more than 60 roads destroyed by heavy rains in the county.
County Executive Member for Roads and Transport Sebastian Kyoni said most of the road network that provides critical link within the county was rendered impassable by the heavy rains.
Speaking Thursday during the commissioning of 23 km Ngiini- KwaTuva-Mbondoni- Yaitha – road at Kalanzoni market Kyoni said the rehabilitation works will be done within three months.
“This is an emergency response by the county government to repair the roads to ease movement. Each of the 30 wards will have two major roads repaired,’’ said Kyoni.
He said the Department of Roads will mobilise enough machinery to ensure that the roads are repaired within the set time.
Speaking at the same event Governor Kivutha Kibwana called on contractors repairing the roads to collaborate with Project Management Committee (PMC) to ensure the work is done to satisfaction.
“Any contractor who does not work with PMCs will not be allowed in Makueni because public participation in all projects is very key,’’ said the governor.
Also present was Kilome MP Thaddaeus Nzambia who promised to work with the county government to rehabilitate roads in the constituency.
“We shall also set aside a kitty from the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) to help in repairing the damaged roads, ’said the MP.
Following heavy rains that pounded the county many roads were rendered impassable paralyzing transport.
