County government partners with UK to boost agriculture

Homa Bay County government has partnered with the British government to implement an agricultural project in the county.

The project will majorly focus on key value chains to aid in economic growth in the county.

In his visit to the county Wednesday, the UK High Commissioner to Kenya Neil Wigan said that they are collaborating to uplift the local economy.

“I want to encourage British firms to seize the key value chain opportunities in Homa Bay and make investment that will create jobs,” he said.

In addition, he asserted that the UK government would partner with Homa Bay County in the upcoming International Investment Conference.

He said that as a government, they would offer technical assistance and send a delegation to the conference to seek opportunities in Homa Bay County.

On her part, Governor Gladys Wanga appreciated the cordial relations between Homa Bay and the UK.

She reiterated that the partnership would prioritize value chains that align with the UK interests like cotton, horticulture, aquaculture, edible oils, among others.

“The public sector cannot do this alone, we need a private sector to come in and invest,” she said.

The governor further acknowledged the support that the county has received towards the Homa Bay International Investment Conference.
