Homa Bay County administration has been challenged to balance the war against COVID-19 and ways of helping hundreds of families displaced by floods in the region.
The heavy rains and rising water level from Lake Victoria has caused a lot of miseries to the community living along the shore of the lake.
Speaking to KNA Monday, the Gwasi North ward MCA Evans Marieba said that the effect of floods in the region has never been given much attention it deserves as hundreds of families continue to suffer the effect of floods which has also caused massive destruction of properties.
Marieba regretted that a lot of focus has been given on the fight against coronavirus in the region, despite the fact that rising water of Lake Victoria and floods continues to wreak havoc in most parts of the county especially along the Lake region.
He called upon the county government of Homa Bay to look into ways of handling the current effect of floods in the region so that the affected families can get humanitarian assistance rather than focusing on coronavirus alone yet hundreds of families are suffering as a result of floods.
