County establishes a public health emergency centre

The County Government of Busia has entered into a partnership with the Global Implementation Solution with a view to establish a Public Health Emergency Centre.

Speaking during the occupational safety training for Busia County health staff GIS official, Charles Okendo, said that the initiative will help local residents have a place to address their problems.

“The County Government has already availed an office space within the County Referral Hospital for this purpose and we have already installed a toll-free line and an email address where members of the public can make enquiries on matters of public health,” Okendo said.

Okendo added that the County Government has also seconded five personnel to facilitate the smooth running of the facility explaining that the staff will serve the public through open door policy.

He further disclosed that the organization is also training the rapid response team across the County on emergency response services.

The Organization which started its operations in Busia five years ago by supporting laboratory activities, has supported Nangina Mission hospital, Alupe Sub County hospital and Busia County Referral hospitals.

“We have since diversified our activities by setting up Public Health operation centres through the support of the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention,” he said, adding that Busia is the only county in the former Western Kenya where the public Health Operation Centre has been set up.
