The Wajir County Development Implementation and Coordination Committee (CDICC) has commended the ongoing road works on the Odda- Bute- Danaba road.
The 90-kilometre road, which covers 64 kilometres in Wajir and 26 kilometres in Marsabit County, is being upgraded to bitumen standard.
According to the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) Wajir County Director Eng. Lawrence Atera, the project which commenced in April 2017 will be completed by October 2020.
“The road works are on schedule and the project should be completed within the stipulated time”, Eng. Atera assured the committee led by County Commissioner (CC), Lynford Kibaara which was inspecting the progress of the road works on Wednesday.
So far, Eng. Atera revealed that the road works were progressing well with 50 percent of the works already completed.
Speaking at the site, County Commissioner Kibaara urged the contractor to ensure that the road is completed within the specified design standards.
“Contractors doing a shoddy job will not be paid”, he said, at the same time instructing chiefs and the local
administration to ensure that those who encroach on the road reserve vacate as soon as possible.
“Sensitize and ensure that those who encroach on road reserves vacate within one month so that the contractor can have an easy time in performing his duties so that the road is completed on time”, reiterated Kibaara.
