The Turkana County Commissioner (CC), has directed the police officers to arrest rogue contractors who have done shoddy works in the area.
Speaking on Sunday during Mashujaa Day celebrations, Wambua cited Lokitang, Kalokol and Lorugum road as some of roads where residents have expressed concerns over shoddy works.
“I have directed the County Police Commander to arrest and prosecute the contractors on those roads,” he said.
Further, the CC said persons found crossing flooded rivers would be rescued and prosecuted.
“We recently lost a driver and a passenger at River kawalase who insisted on crossing the road which was flooded despite warning from the police,” he said.
Businessmen have incurred hefty losses after lorries were swept in the river.”It is very unfortunate that some traders have borrowed loans to purchase lorries only for reckless drivers to sweep them in the rivers,” he said.
At the same time, the CCC directed persons living in low areas to relocate to higher grounds.
He said more rains are expected in the county.
