County Commissioner Leads Crackdown on Illicit Brews

Vihiga County Commissioner (CC) Felix Watakila has mounted a crackdown on illicit brews and bhang aimed at curbing the sale and consumption of the harmful stuff in the area.

On Thursday, he led a team of National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs) and the police in destroying chang’aa worth Sh. 900,000 as well as burning bhang and counterfeit cigarettes worth Shs. 500,000 in Esiembero Division in Luanda Sub-County.

The CC urged the residents to desist from selling and consuming the illegal stuff as not only does it harm their health but it also impedes socio-economic development.

He further stated that deep-rooted and widespread drunkenness is the underlying factor behind the commonplace social evils including rape and incest.

“I am determined to sustain this campaign across the County to ensure that sobriety and peace prevail in the households and the communities at large,” he asserted.

The administrator at the same time appealed to the parents to act responsibly and be role models to the children by upholding the moral code of conduct of the society.
