County builds 200 stalls to boost business

The Kiambu County is constructing about 200 business stalls at the newly completed Bus Park, in a bid to boost business in the County.

The 4,750 square meter Bus Park project began in June 2023 and was completed in May 2024 but is yet to be launched due to the incomplete business stalls built around the commuter stage.

The Bus Park aims to serve about 30 matatu Sacco’s in the area; it is a major central hub for the region’s transport business, and its launch is anticipated to improve connectivity for travellers.

According to Kiambu town Member of the County Assembly (MCA), Francis Koina, “The County government aims to construct 150 to 200 stalls; approximately 23 stalls have been completed, and the government hopes to complete the construction of the remaining stalls before the end of the year.” said Koina

He added that the development is expected to create significant marketing and job opportunities for the people of Kiambu County, enhancing local commerce and supporting economic growth in the region.

A food vendor, Grace Gichuki, who talked to KNA, expresses her gratitude to the government for the ongoing construction of the stalls, which will create more business opportunities and provide them with additional working space.

“We are glad that the county is providing for us modern spaces for our business and we are also hoping that the government will install lights to enhance security, ensuring a safer environment for both vendors and customers as the bus park develops,” said Gichuki

A matatu operator, Geoffrey Mwaura, also expressed appreciation for the stall construction, noting that it will likely increase the number of passengers. With the operators of the stalls potentially using their matatus for transport, this development is expected to boost business for the matatu operators and improve overall accessibility for customers visiting the bus park.

“We are urging the government to hasten the completion of the stall so we can access the new bus park, since we have been having problems with space since its construction began… We hope the park will boost our transport business due to its accessibility, cited Mwaura.

While the delay in the launch of the stall may be frustrating, the long-term benefits for the public and the economy of Kiambu County are undeniable. Once completed, the stalls will not only provide a vibrant marketplace for local vendors but also enhance transportation services and create numerous opportunities.
