Tharaka Nithi Assembly has donated 100 beds to the County government to help in coronavirus preparedness as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
The Assembly speaker David Mbaya said the entire exercise is aimed at helping the people of Tharaka Nithi and it will be a norm to be adopted by future assemblies.
“Our County government, like other counties and nations, is struggling with Coronavirus pandemic and this is the reason we proposed to chip in to add help to fight the virus,” said Mbaya.
The speaker said the assembly was ready to keep the harmonious working relationship with other government departments to reach their goals of helping residents.
Mukothima ward MCA Mwenda Gataya who is also the CSR Chairman said more such activities will follow for the sake of vulnerable wananchi.
County Governor Muthomi Njuki lauded the assembly for making up the noble idea that will enhance the fight against Covid-19.
Governor Njuki said the county has now registered 234 beds with the 100 beds from the county assembly although county facilities had a capacity to hold up to 750 beds.
“The ministry of health warned against transporting of COVID-19 patients to other Counties for treatment and this has made us prepare since our infection will be our burden,” he said.
