Kisii County has lobbied for more funds from The United State Agency for International Development (USAID) in a bid to improve livelihoods of youth, women and special groups in the area.
The appeal was made during a visit by USAID Mission Director to Kenya, Mark Meassick and Mission Lawyer, Kelly Mark who paid a courtesy call on area governor, James Ongwae.
Ongwae applauded the ongoing developmental partnerships between the county and the organization, saying it will foster development in that area.
However, the governor urged the donors to deal directly with county governments instead of the usual channel of through the national government to avoid delays during disbursements.
The County Executive for Administration, Walter Okibo, acknowledged AHADI (Agile Harmonized Assistance for Developed Institutions), an organization under USAID for holding trainings and mentorship programmes for county officials including sub-county and ward administrators.
“Moreover AHADI has greatly assisted us in stakeholder mapping and in developing a public participation policy,” added Okibo.
Meassick commended the county’s governance for its enabling and conducive working conditions.
“We are looking forward to working together and ensuring that everyone performs progressively,” stated Meassick.
The USAID team is expected to tour various agricultural, health, water and entrepreneurship projects in the county in order to identify the areas of collaboration between the two parties.
