Counting is underway in hundreds of polling stations across Nyali and Kisauni constituencies in Mombasa County.
The counting and tallying process kicked off after closure of voting exercise. However, voting in some polling stations and streams were extended for few hours to recover time lost due to KIEMS kits failure at the start of the voting exercise.
In Kisauni, the returning officer, Ibrahim Wario said they have started receiving presidential results from 169 out of 217 polling stations.
“Polling stations were closed on time save for few others where voting was delayed due to hitches. We are waiting for Presidential results from 48 polling stations,” added Wario.
He said counting and tallying for the remaining elective positions are underway.
“The official declaration of the results for the remaining positions will be done once counting is concluded,” he added.
Kisauni constituency tallying center has been set up at Shanzu Teachers Training College, where the returning officer is scheduled to declare the winner of Member of the National Assembly (MP). The most populous constituency in Mombasa County has attracted eight candidates.
In Nyali constituency, returning officer, John Ole Taiswa said counting and tallying process is ongoing in 159 polling stations.
Ole Taiswa said they have received electronically presidential results from 134 polling stations.
“Everything is going on smoothly. We can see from our monitor, we are remaining with counting and tallying for the presidential votes in 69 polling stations,” he added.
