China state construction company project manager Mr. Xiao Huaping has asked the National Land Commission (NLC) to hasten the compensation process to speed up construction of Kitale – Suam road.
Speaking during the inspection of a 6.5km stretch from Kitale fly-over to Matisi that is set to begin, Mr Xiao said that compensation and adverse weather conditions had caused delays in the construction of Kitale-Suam road. “It has been raining the whole of this year causing delays in undertaking the project within the contractual time, “he said adding that compensation to land owners also delayed the project.
Trans Nzoia County Commissioner Samson Ojwang asked the contractor to come up with an inventory of the number of people and structures that will be affected to ease compensation process.
He warned people residing or operating businesses on the road reserve that the government will not compensate them and advised the contractor to apply a 24 hour construction schedule to take advantage of the prevailing dry weather condition.
The construction of the 6.5km road that will pass through the town will commence on Friday 11th, December 2020 and is scheduled to be completed in March next year.
