Construction of a multimillion shilling modern theatre at Siaya County Hospital kicked off yesterday when the area Governor, James Orengo presided over the ground breaking ceremony.
Upon completion, the Sh68 million facility will have four surgical theatre rooms and a 10 bed intensive care unit (ICU) facility.
Addressing the occasion, governor Orengo said that the project will be funded by the World Bank through the Kenya devolution support programme.
He said that sh. 53 million will be used for construction of the complex while the rest of the money will be used to equip it with modern equipment.
Orengo, who was flanked by his deputy, William Oduol and senior county government officials, hailed the World Bank and the national government for the support, adding that his administration was committed to fostering useful collaborations with all partners.
The governor said that his administration has a comprehensive strategy that shall address reproductive, maternal and child health services as well as other sectors in the county.
Among the key areas, he said, was commitment to ensure regular supply of drugs and other medical supplies.
“We want to make deficit or lack of drugs history” he said adding “the need to have adequate stocks of health commodities in all our facilities must at all times remain our irreducible minimum in health service delivery”
