Construction of phase one of grade 9 classrooms almost complete

The ongoing construction of 12 grade nine class rooms in Rachuonyo East Sub County is near completion, Subcounty Education Director Kennedy Gekera has said.

The 12 classrooms under phase one are spread in four primary schools in the sub-county, including Othoro and Ringa Primary Schools (3 classrooms each), Ober boys’ primary boarding (4 classes), and Kilusi Primary (2 classrooms).

The director said each classroom is being put up at a cost of Sh 1,000,000 through the World Bank and the government of Kenya.

He said the assessment of phase one classrooms in the four schools reveals they are about to be completed, saying the government is committed to ensuring learners in grade 6 as outlined in the competence-based curriculum (CBC) are effectively accommodated next year.

The director was speaking today during monitoring and evaluation of the strides made so far in regard to the construction of the classrooms. “Schools to benefit from 26 classrooms in phase two are already identified. The tendering process is ongoing, waiting for funding,” he added.

In August this year, CS for Education Julius Ogamba said construction of 3500 classrooms was ongoing countrywide, and 13500 classrooms were expected to come later to ensure effective implementation of CBC.
